As a bed and breakfast inn welcoming travelers to Richmond’s historic Fan District, we have been aware of the parking issues associated with being located in close proximity to Virginia Commonwealth University. As a result, we have always offered guests free off-street parking in our driveway. Now, that traffic on Morris Street has increased exponentially and drivers are traveling faster through the neighborhood, we were concerned that backing out of our off-street parking into the street might create a hazard for guests unfamiliar with the area. As a result, the inn has obtained exclusive use of two parking spaces in the commercial lot just behind our garage. The two places are marked with signage and guests should make sure to display the parking pass on their dashboard while they park there. The inn is actually located on the corner of N. Morris Street and Floyd Avenue; the lot is accessible off of Morris Street, proceed past the side of the inn and garage and take the first left, then immediately turn left again. Guests should still initially stop in the passenger loading zone in front of the inn to unload bags, check in, and obtain their parking pass. We hope that this new arrangement is better for our guests and enables them to navigate the streets of our historic neighborhood without incident.
But remember, after a long day of museum-hopping, sight-seeing, and shopping, we offer our guests the chance to partake of complimentary refreshments between 5 PM and 7 PM, then walk over to one of our neighborhood eateries for a local dining experience. Local neighborhood dining spots include upscale dining options, casual dining, trendy hotspots, and even a sports bar or two. Fare includes seafood, Italian, Cuban, grilled American, Mediterranean, bar food, salads and sandwiches – even a college hangout featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins, as well as hot dog joint. Bound to be something for every appetite!
