Ceramic Sculpture of Jun Kaneko at VMFA

Monumental ceramic sculptures of Jun Kaneko have been installed in the sculpture garden at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. On display through December 12, the work was chosen for its scale and presence. Jun Kaneko, born in Japan and now based in Omaha, creates the largest fired ceramic sculptures in the world. (more…)

Purple Martins Are in Richmond

An estimated 11,000 Purple Martins have made their annual month-long stop in Richmond on their way south to Brazil. And, on Saturday evening, July 31 several hundred humans showed up at the 17th Street Farmers’ Market to celebrate at the annual Gone to the Birds Festival. The first wave of Purple Martins arrived about two weeks ago and are likely to stay for another couple of weeks.  But, of course, Mother Nature is in control of the schedule here.   (more…)

Dragon Boat Results Are In

The results are in and posted!  The first annual dragon boat race in Richmond on the James River attracted hundreds of spectators and 650 competitors. Results. Winners in Division A were pretty much from out-of-town, but local teams had an impact as well. (more…)
