The Richmond Folk Festival has announced the first eight acts for its third annual event in downtown Richmond on the weekend of October 8 through 10, 2010. This year’s free event will offer about 30 acts performing on seven stages scattered along Richmond’s downtown riverfront. The first eight acts, announced last week, are eclectic and “feature a smorgasbord of carefully chosen genres” according to Melissa Ruggieri, Richmond Times-Dispatch staff writer. The remaining acts will be announced early next month to complete the roundup. So far, the folk festival will feature: Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials (Chicago Blues), Donald Harrison Jr. & The Congo Square Nation (blend of jazz and Mardi Gras Indian traditions), La Excelencia (salsa), Boukman Esperyans (Haitian roots music), Ensemble Shanbehzadeh (music and dancing from Persian Gulf), Lunasa (Irish acoustic band), Bonsoir, Catin (Female Cajun ensemble), and Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band – naturally bluegrass!
