March is the Month of the Irish

Shamrocks, shillelaghs, and Celtic music are on tap for March in Richmond, Virginia.  St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are on the calendar, and, if you happen to be in Richmond, you might want to check these out!

On Tuesday March 29th at 7:30 PM, Celtic Woman, a musical ensemble consisting of five Irish female artists: vocalists Chloë Agnew, Lynn Hilary, Lisa Kelly, Lisa Lambe and fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt, will appear at the Landmark Theater in Richmond’s historic Fan District as part of their international Songs from the Heart Tour.  The group’s repertoire ranges from traditional Celtic tunes to modern songs.  Celtic Woman has won over its fans from viewers of their PBS shows and from word-of-mouth of excited fans. They have sold over 6 million CDs/DVDs and performed for over 1.2 million people.  It may be later in the month than St. Patrick’s Day, but it’s worth catching!  Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.

Shillelaghs and  bagpipes are bound to be on hand for the Church Hill Irish Festival on Saturday March 26 and Sunday March 27, celebrating 26 years of Irish Heritage.  The band schedule hasn’t been posted yet but includes local favorites and Irish favorites as well. Other entertainment and family fun is in the works, as well as Irish vendors with their crafts and wares. INFO.  You might want to save the weekend!

Shockoe Bottom hosts Shamrock the Block on Saturday March 12 between noon and 6 PM at the 17th Street Farmer’s Market. There is no admission fee to attend the festival which features great food and live music all day – along with green beverages so be safe and designate a driver!  This is the first outdoor event of the season and last year 25,000 folks attended!  The LATEST!

The 12th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Street Party takes place March 19 & 20 at Sine Irish Pub & Restaurant between 11:30 AM and 1:00 AM.  Sine is located at 1327 East Cary Street in Richmond’s Shockoe Slip and will feature live music and DJ James spinning tunes in the Patio Pub!

On Thursday March 17th, the real St. Patrick’s Day, O’Toole’s Restaurant and Pub at 4800 Forest Hill Avenue will offer live bagpipers, traditional Irish dishes, dinner and beverage specials, and five live Celtic Bands.

Also in Thursday, March 17th, world-class Celtic rock band, Enter the Haggis, performs at Capital Ale House in downtown Richmond at 623 E Main Street.  Experience the Irish!
