In addition to Richmond’s fireworks display at Dogwood Dell on July 4th, July 3 brings fireworks to  the James River bringing two nights of fireworks and fun this weekend. These new fireworks are bound to be a great event.  The fireworks display, designed by the famed pyrotechnicians from Grucci, will be sited so as to be visible from 360 degrees. Families will be able to see the display from just about anywhere. MORE INFO.


December is coming!

December is right around the corner and that means Richmond is a-whirl with events and happenings.  Just this weekend alone there are lots of fun-filled holiday events to attend.

Friday evening, December 3rd, the official State tree in Capitol Square will be lighted at 5 PM. Best viewing will be at the South Portico of the Capitol. Afterwards, beginning at 5:30 PM the Executive Mansion, home of the Governor, will be hold an open house between 5:30 PM and 8 PM. It’s your chance to see inside this historic Virginia home!

The James Center’s Grand Illumination takes place at 6 PM between 9th and 12th Streets along Cary Street. The event is free, parking is available at the deck at 10th and Canal after 4 PM for $3.

Bizarre Bazaar’s Christmas shopping spree opens at the Richmond Raceway Complex, 600 East Laburnum Avenue – Thursday December 2 through Sunday December 5th. The Bizarre Bazaar is celebrating 35 years of shopping fun…..There is a preview on Wednesday, December 1 to benefit the Massey Cancer Center. Information.

Saturday, December 4th is Richmond’s Annual Holiday Parade at 10:00 Am. It kicks off in front of the Science Museum of Virginia at 2500 W Broad Street and runs east to 7th Street. This year there will be a special tribute to Sgt. Santa, who distributed toys and gifts to Richmond’s needy.  This parade is complete with balloons and floats, music, bands, and, of course, Santa!

If parades are not your style, check out the Gingerbread and Tea Tour at Virginia House, 4501 Sulgrave Road. You’ll even be able to build your own gingerbread house! 10 AM to Noon.

Sunday, December 5th, the City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities presents “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at the Landmark Theater, 6 N Laurel Street. FREE!
